​Jean Carletta, Associate

​​Jean Carletta is a Surefoot Associate. She has a background in communication technology research and research project management. 

​Since 2009, Jean has been applying her skills to understand why church and community building heating costs so much with so little effect. ​

As a trained Carbon Conversations facilitator, she went on to found HeatHack, a volunteer group that helps building operators understand thermal comfort, heat loss, and how to know if a heating system is operating efficiently. 
​HeatHack is currently devising a set of exercises that will help the operators understand their premises, think about their buildings’ lower carbon futures, and create a thermal profile that can be passed to professionals to give them more certainty about what to do with these difficult but important community spaces. ​

​Climate friendly action in everyday life
"I ride my bicycle - I'm lucky to be able-bodied enough, and Edinburgh has so many cycle lanes it's easy to get around. I liked when Lothian Buses started training their drivers to be careful about cyclists - they look out for us now, and I'm nicer to them too! It made cycling feel much safer on some roads.
​My meals are more interesting now than the meat-based cooking I learned growing up - and nicer!"
