Future Conversations

Future Conversations workshops help communities raise their resilience levels and adapt to climate change and current societal challenges.

Everyone agrees that strengthening the capacity of individuals, businesses, and communities is vital in facing the all of the challenges ahead, but what does this mean, and how can we do it?

Future Conversations can be delivered over 2 day-long workshops or as a series of 6 facilitated sessions for 10-20 participants. Ideally, the participants are all from the same community. The content of the sessions is flexible and aims to meet the unique needs of individuals and communities, creating resilience and future prosperity.  
Future Conversations help you:
  • Connect to share hopes, fears and challenges about climate change.
  • Build inner resilience by learning valuable lessons from nature and new life skills with Surefoot facilitators
  • Discover your creativity and motivation to build adaptive communities that confront issues
  • Challenge beliefs and norms to allow what’s possible to emerge, particularly the impact of the climate emergency, and social justice issues

Future Conversations sessions include:
  •  2 longer or 6 shorter sessions with 10-20 people, 2 facilitators
  •  The interval between sessions is between weekly and monthly
  • The day of the week and time of the day/evening will be agreed with you​​
  •  We run the sessions at your organisation if possible 

Online sessions are also a possibility:
  • Online format: a programme in 6 sessions of 1.5 hrs using zoom calls, with a recommend group size of 10-20 people 
  • Taster:  a 1.5 hour online or face-to-face workshop to give a flavour of the full programme, and enable people to decide if they wish to commit to Future Conversations 
More about Future Conversations
The aim is to recruit people with an actual or potential connection - they are living in the same neighbourhood, or are members of an organisation or community, for instance.

The venue is ideally a community garden in the area or a local community centre with enough green space around for inspiration.
​​A  ‘taster session’, preferably for 12-20 people, can be held for the community at which people are invited to commit to the full series. ​​​All the details of the sessions are open to negotiation with local partner organisations. If possible, we use an outdoor setting for the sessions since proximity to nature is an effective learning tool. Natural ecosystems teach us about resilience, community, and interconnection.  

Typically, Future Conversations session content contains resilience and adaptation training, community and organisation skills, and ways to understand and respond to the climate crisis. See Session Overview below.
Future Conversations Facilitators 
Our lead facilitators are Pam Candea, Founder and Managing Director of The Surefoot Effect and Georgina Wilson, Surefoot Associate and Founder and CEO of BUD. 

When you gather people to form a team of participants, we recommend you discuss the possibility of them becoming Future Conversations facilitators themselves. Surefoot also provides facilitator training which enables your organisation your organisation to run sessions in the future.
